STEP ONE

STEP TWO

Students will be playing professional assembly line workers. Efficiency and accuracy is the goal. Play this game at the begining of the school year when teachers establish classroom rules. And play a several times throughout the year to as reviews for students.
Ask each group to get a number of certain materials. Do not give them any directions or tips about organizing the materials they have.

Tell students that the goal of the game is to put materials neatly on the assembly table in 30 seconds to earn points. Necessary classroom expectations can be reminded during this step such as sitting down with hands up and quietly waiting when done, etc.

STEP THREE

Explain the rules to students:

Students will be playing 8 rounds to accumulate game points. In between rounds, students will be provided with 1 minute of prepping group talk.

You may start playing the game. Repeat the same routines for each round and keep track of points.

Noes: Teachers do not prompt any discussion, which allow students to utilize peer knowledge and pressure to learn. (students should come up with strategies and ideas of how to be efficient and accurate. This is where the exchange of strategies and realization of the value of keeping things organized come in in the game.)

STEP FOUR

At the fifth round of the game, the teacher guide a class discussion on who has earned the most point and to ask students to share strategies.

STEP FIVE

At the end of the game do a wrap up conversation about what they learned from the game and how these strategies can be used to organized their lockers, desks, backpacks, rooms, etc!
